Studies have proven that keeping a pet can improve a person?s health. Pets combat loneliness and depression, they compel their owners to go outside, they provide people with common ground, and they create a routine. Caring for a pet can be relaxing for an owner. Keeping a pet can lower blood pressure. Pets provide their owners with a sense of duty and pride. Pets can provide physical contact and security that is very important for health. Keeping a pet may aid in rehabilitation from certain illnesses. Keeping a family pet is a great way to teach young children responsibility. Elderly people benefit from having a pet because many elderly persons become isolated and lonely.

There are many different types of Animal that can be kept as a pet. Dogs and cats are the most kept animals because of their size, attractive appearance, and playful disposition. A person may get a bird because of the song it sings. Fish and reptiles are animals that are kept as pets by some people. Fish and reptiles are not very playful. Some less common pets are hermit crabs, termites, ants, spiders, and monkeys. Horses can be considered pets. Animals as exotic as a tiger have been kept as pets. Virtual pets are a substitute to having a real animal and you do not have to worry about your pet dying. Each of these pets presents different advantages and disadvantages. Some require less care, less food, and less space than others. Your particular tastes and resources will determine what type of pet is best for you.
