It’s not very hard to keep a kid entertained with something to play with. In this electronic age every toy seems to require batteries or software in order to work. However, kid’s toys don’t have to be sophisticated in order to be fun. Toys that require thinking and the imagination are the best toys that help aide the child in mental development.
Sudoku for kids and connect four both require critical thinking in order to win. This is precisely what parents should be looking for. Games that rely on chance won’t do much to benefit a child. A game of chess or checkers on the other hand can be very beneficial. I will be discussing a few kinds of toys and games that aide in stimulating children to learn more.
Puzzles
When trying to find inexpensive, fun and educational games, puzzles rank pretty high on the list. This game helps build up hand eye coordination for children and adults alike. The end result of this is a nice fully complete puzzle that you put together yourself. It’s a testament of what the human mind can develop in a short amount of time. Children will enjoy the independence that comes along with constructing a puzzle. This is very important early on in life and puzzles actually strengthen the process.
Building models
Model kits are readily available in most of the world’s toys stores. However, due to computer and video games, these types of toys are no longer as popular as they once were. In any event, kid’s can build their own cars, planes and boats from scratch using these kits.
Many of these kits are priced below $20.00 and generally don’t require adult supervision. All that’s needed is the kit and the child’s imagination in order to produce a lifelike model that will last for years. Advanced electric models have hit the market for older children approaching their teens. These models are not only for display but are meant to be played with after they are built. Walking robots, moving cars and trains can all be built.
Cards
Flash card games that incorporate math, language and/or science into the play are a good investment. Not only will your child be kept busy but they will also be learning at the same time. These card games are regularly used to teach students in school due to their effectiveness. The cost is very little or nothing at all if you make them. This would be a good afternoon activity for a child to do instead of watching television. First they could take some sheets of paper and write the questions and answers on them, then the cards can been used to test them.
Whether it is a puzzle, flash cards or models, there are plenty of educational games available for kid’s. Don’t fall into the technology trap by buying games for children that require starring at a screen. Instead, remember that no matter how much technology we develop, children can always be taught using simple old fashion toys.
Now more than ever, kids are losing their attention spans by spending countless hours in front of the television or by being on the computer. In most cases this only provides a temporary distraction that offers the child very little. Why not consider an educational toy for your child the next time you are out shopping?

When kids are at play, it should not only be for the sake of their enjoyment. What parents should consider more is that, toys are the first tools that children use to know more about themselves and of course the things around them. Toys are also helpful tools so kids can be trained on certain abilities or learning skills. Educational toys make them learn while having fun.
There are several subcategories for educational toys. They also vary depending on the kid’s ability and age group. One of the specific skills that parents would want their kids or children to focus on while growing up is their language skills. And under this skill would be the kids’ ability to speak. Speech aid toys are definitely on top of the list when it comes to sales and popularity in this category. These toys also differ from each other. There are toys wherein kids are instructed to push certain buttons and then they will hear a recording. These recordings could be varying animal sounds, nursery rhymes or simple melodies. For toddlers or small kids, these recordings could be the alphabet, numbers, simple words or greetings. For more complex and more interactive speech aids, there are those that could give kids easy instructions like, “press the green button”, “press the heart-shaped button”, etc. These can also stimulate the kid’s ability when it comes to interaction with his or her playmates. Plus, they begin to gain knowledge on how to tell simple or short stories. It is also important to take note that listening and speaking skills go hand in hand. That is why most of these toys are usually a combination of both learning abilities. If kids need more attention with regards to their language or speaking skills, parents can opt to get more specialized toys.
There are several toy companies who manufacture educational toys that focus on the aforementioned skills. As a matter of fact, there are several speech aids that you can choose from. They have different designs, shapes and features. You may not notice it but the kids can also develop their psychomotor skills alongside their speech skills when you buy them playthings such as these. They can also learn to recognize shapes and colors.
When you buy toys it is also important to check the label and the toy’s contents. It is also best to make sure that there are no small parts that could cause choking especially when you’re buying toys for kids 3 years and under. You can save money if you can pick the educational toy that could grow with the kids. And as much as possible be imaginative in picking your kids’ playthings. Don’t easily give in to what they like or want check if it will help them develop specific skills.
It is also important that once in a while you play with the kids. That way you will be able to bond with each other and you will be able know your kids more.

Of late, parenting has become tougher and the reason behind it is not just the kids but the parents too. Work pressures, lack of patience, relationship problems etc have a direct impact on the way you interact with your kid. An honest introspect may divulge finer nuances on these lines. A change is surely needed from your side to actually witness a change from your kid’s side! Bringing up a child is a sensitive, complex yet a heavenly endeavor. Behavioral difficulties are one of the most commonly heard of setbacks from parents round the world. In U.K there’s even a T.V show called ‘Little Angels’ designed to aid and advice parents with similar difficulties.
Are you a positive parent? When was the last time you gave your kid something he or she hadn’t expected, appreciating his or her deed? When was the last time you punished him or her? The answers for the first two must have made you think, but the last one was just some hours or a couple of days ago, I bet on that! Punishing helps initially, but when done over and over again it gradually develops a ‘counter force’ in your kid and the kid finds other ways to do things what he/she would be punished for or develops characteristics of an introvert or just loses an emotional connect with you for a simple reason that the kid fears you now!
Positive parenting stresses on the kids reward system rather than the system of punishing. Motivation for good deeds will surely lessen the ‘other’ deeds of the kid and make the kid voluntarily focus on the ‘good’ deeds. Self-discipline and voluntary responsibility are the two fruits of the kids reward system and thus, positive parenting.
The reward can be a simple ‘favorite toffee’ or en extra hour of T.V, but to make things simpler for the busy parent there are many websites offering online kids reward programme. These assign fun-filled yet interactive and educative tasks to kids and he kids earn points in return, which can be redeemed to obtain goodies. Enroll on to an online kids reward programme to get away all the parenting blues!
